WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
The course is tailored to students who wish to develop
their skills, knowledge and understanding of the performing arts industry. The
course is ‘vocational’ and therefore very much aimed at exploring activities
that are work related – in other words reflecting the current working
practices, constraints and preoccupations of professionals in the arenas of
professional drama, dance, music and theatre production.
The AS/A2 Performing Arts
course is designed to combine the exploration of a wide breadth of performance
skills as well as providing students with the opportunity to focus on their
particular areas of performance interest & expertise.
HOW AM I ASSESSED?
- The course is
100% coursework (e.g. no written exam.)
- Your work is
assessed through a range of performances and coursework portfolios.
- The work is
intensely practical.

AM I RIGHT FOR
THE COURSE?
Having
studied one or more of the performing arts at GCSE or BTEC level will be an
advantage, but by no means a requirement. The course will suit any student who
has a genuine interest in the industry and wishes to develop their skills and
knowledge of performing arts.
The
only essential requirements are:
· A willingness to try new practical performance skills
· A willingness to involve yourself practically in workshops and performances (both individually and in a group)
· A willingness to devote extra-curricular time when appropriate, for additional rehearsals and performances
HOW SUCCESSFUL
IS THE COURSE?
Very. Last year 17 students
took the course for the full two years achieving the following results:
·
100% passed
IS THE COURSE
JUST FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BECOME PERFORMERS?
No.
The course is designed to explore the performing arts industry, but is also an
excellent subject choice if you want to improve communication and teamwork
skills, as well as having strong links with English Literature, History and
Psychology.
